Tenuta San Michele rises 500 m above sea level, on the eastern slopes of Etna, below Zafferana Etnea, in a privileged panoramic position. The company is located along one of the main access routes to the craters and is the destination of a large number of visitors and wine lovers. Historical elements Baron Emanuele Scammacca del Murgo , although engaged in a long diplomatic career that led him to be Ambassador of Italy to the Holy See, Brussels, Moscow and Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in 1981 decided to transform the ancient family land ownership in modern productive farms, implementing gradual and continuous investments. In the following years his sons Michele, Alessandro, Pietro, Matteo joined him, supported by his brothers Filippo, Bernardo, Manfredi and Costantino. The vineyards The vineyard has a net extension of 24.5 hectares and is for the most part registered with the Etna doc. In some plots, vines of French origin are grown that are well integrated into this particular terroir. The microclimate of Etna is characterized by strong thermal excursions due to the altitude of the volcano (3360m) which delay maturation and bring freshness and fragrance to the wines. The volcanic soils instead give a strong minerality that is felt in all the products of the territory. Thanks to these conditions, elegant, complex, savory wines are obtained with a clear identity in the Italian and international wine scene. The management of the vineyard is based on the priority use of natural techniques with low environmental impact.
